Maha Buddhavamsa
The Great Chronicle of The Buddhas
by Tipitakadhara Mingun Sayadaw
(5) One Week Under Banyan Tree Ajapala
After spending four weeks (twenty-eight days) in
near Mahabodhi tree, in the fifth week, the Buddha walked
towards the ajapàla banyan tree located to the east of the
Mahabodhi tree and stayed for seven days under the tree,
contemplate Dhamma and immersed in Phala Samàpatti.
(Banyan tree is called ajapàla because this tree is
gathering place of the shepherds. Ajapàla nigrodha, tree
banyan where shepherds take shelter under it).
At that time, a Brahmin who does not know the name
and his tribe, that looks rough and haughty, approached the Buddha
and chatted with the Buddha. After greeting each other,
The Brahmin (rough) standing in a place and ask
Buddha:
"Venerable Gotama, what makes a virtue
Brahmin becomes a true Brahmin in this world? What
required to become a noble? "
Here, the Brahmin rough will not be able to penetrate Four
Noble Truth even if the Buddha taught. True that
Those who heard the verses of the Buddha Dhamma before
Buddha preached the Dhammacakka sermon will be lucky
only because of the impression on his mind, like two traders
Tapussa and Bhallika brothers, but they will not be able to
Roads and reach fruition through the penetration of the Four Truths
Honor. Dhamma just for things that are natural (Sarattha Dipani
Tikà). Because the Brahmins can not absorb the Dhamma rough
(Not the one who can see the Four Truths), Buddha
does not teach Dhamma to him. But, understand the intent
question the Brahmins, the Buddha spoke the following verse:
Yo brahmano bàhitapàpadhammo
nihunhunko nikkasàvo yatatto
vedantagå vusitabrahmacariyo
dhammena so brahmavàdam vadeyya
yass'ussadà n'athi kuhinci loke.
Arahanta called a Brahmin is he who has
get rid of all evil: he was free from all violence
and roughness; he is free from the taint of defilement, he seeks to
develop a meditation, or he has a mind controlled
by morality, or he has reached Nirvana, the cessation of the
total inner groups with penetration Four Magga
Nana; or she has reached the level Arahatta-Phala, the peak of
Four Magga Nana. He practiced the noble road to exercise
Nibbana. In this world, in which everything arises and disappears, no
None of the five crimes that appear (ussadà) from one
object faculties, namely lust (rag'ussada), hatred (dos'ussada),
stupidity (moh'ussada), pride (man'ussada), views
one (ditth'ussada). Arahanta are called Brahmins
bravely said, "Yea, verily, I am a
true Brahmin ! "
(What this means is: A person who has
seven virtues deserve to be called Brahmin: (1) free from crime,
(2) free from violence and roughness, (3) free from dirt stains
interior, (4) self-control through morality, (5) achievement
Nibbana, (6) have undergone the noble practice of the Way, (7) is not the emergence
five crimes (ussada).
Mara Confess Defeat
Mara has followed the Buddha for seven years to find
opportunity to find fault Buddha, but he did not
got any chance to do so. By
So he approached the Buddha when the Buddha dwelt at the bottom
ajapala banyan tree and said:
"O ascetic Gotama, if you pensive in this forest
for thou consumed with grief? Are you experiencing
lost property worth hundreds of thousands? Or, if thou
pensive here because you want a wealth of valuable
hundreds of thousands? Or, are thou pensive in this forest
for having committed serious crimes in a village or town
and not daring to meet anyone else? Why do you not get along
with others? You have absolutely no friends! "
Buddha replied:
"O Mara, I have removed and destroyed all causes
grief, I do not do evil that even the smallest;
because free from all worries, I'm immersed in two
Jhana. I have cut the desire for birth (bhavatanhà);
I have no attachment to anything; I'm still happy
in two forms jhana. (Not as you think,
I'm not coming here because the grief caused by the
loss of wealth, or because of greed.) "
Mara said:
"O ascetic Gotama, in this world, some people and hermit attached
to the objects of wealth such as gold and silver, and
needs an object like a cloak, and others, and said, "This
mine. "If thy mind is attached, such as people and this ascetic
of gold and silver, and others, to cloak, and so on
else, You can never escape from the region
my power in the three realms. "
Buddha replied:
"O Mara, I have no attachment to any object-
objects of wealth such as gold, silver, etc., and to object
needs such as robes, and others, and said "This is mine,"
unlike others, I am not one who says "This
mine." " Oh Mara, suppose I as like that!,
because I had left the three realms of life, thou shalt not
will find traces of me in the land ruled in three realms
life (bhava), four types of birth (yoni), the five sections (Gati),
and nine realm with feeling creature. "
Mara said:
"O ascetic Gotama, if you have found a way to
Nibbana, go by yourself. Why would you want to teach
to others? "
Then Buddha said:
"O Mara, (No matter how hard you try to block me) I
will continue to teach other beings Right Road toward
Nibbana, if I'm asked to teach the True Way and
Nibbana, free from death by the gods, humans, and Brahma,
who wish to attain Nibbana, the other shore. "
When saying this, Mara, who was losing his mind
like a crab shell was broken by kids
villagers say the following verse (and conceded):
Medàvannan Ca pàsànam vàyaso anuparrigà
Apettha mudum vindema, api assàdanà siyà
Aladdha tattha assàdam, vàyasetto apakkame
Kako'va selamàsajja nibbijjàpema Gotama.
"Buddha named Gotama, a descendant of the great king was elected
(Mahàsammata)! (A parable is like) the crow
stupid hunger jump in eight directions, surrounding the grain
stone like lump of fat and tried to tear it up with
beak, because he thinks he will get fat and
meat is tender and it must be very tasty. "
"Not managed to get the delicacy of the stone, the stupid crow
it's gone. Like a crow that stupid, because it failed to enjoy
slightest delicacy even though he had tried to tear the stone
like a lump of fat, we gave up, feeling
sad, very sad, and almost heartbroken, because they do not succeed
obtain whatever is expected after they interrupt,
harm, and hinder you, Your Honor. "

Buddha to find fault with him, but I do not succeed

immediately approached their father and asked, "Daddy, why
are you so sad and broken heart? "" My daughters, "said
Mara, "The ascetic Gotama has run away from my power in the three realms.
Although I've followed it for over seven years
to find fault with him, but I have not managed to get
any chance to denounce him. Therefore I
so sad and heartbroken." "Daddy, do not worry. We will
The recluse Gotama persuade and bring him to the front,
father, "the promise of three daughters.
Then Mara said, "My daughter, no one in this world
The recluse Gotama is able to persuade this. The recluse Gotama is
has a very firm conviction and unshakeable. "
"Dad, we are women. We will ensnare him with a passion
and immediately brought him to your facade. Do not be disappointed and
grieve. "Having said this, this three daughters approach
Buddha and said with a tone of persuading, "Exalted ascetic,
let us serve Thee, bow respectfully at Thy feet and

and still enjoy the bliss of Nibbana in Phala Samàpatti
without opening his eyes.
Then, the three daughters of Mara discussion, "The man has taste

you try to test me like this? These actions should

hatred (dosa) and ignorance (moha). While me, I
have obliterated lust, I have removed hatred, I
have to eliminate ignorance. "Then the Buddha said
The following two stanzas as found in the Dhammapada:

you will bring him. "
